“Chedirina Kala” meaning ‘Shattered Dream’ is a short film by Tanmayi Jarubula (her directorial debut) made for her pre-graduation project (7th semester project) at Srishti Manipal Institute in October 2023. I worked on Tanmayi’s crew as the lead Director of Photography, alongside Suryadevsinh Parmar.
As the DP, I worked closely with the director to bring her vision to life, from breaking down her screenplay into shots, storyboarding them, going on several location recces to find places that best matched her vision and taking test shots to finally executing them on the shoot days. With Surya, I carefully blocked each shot and setup dual-camera setups to maximize coverage wherever possible and keep options open for Tanmayi at the post-production stage. I framed every shot to try and make it the best it could be while still adding to the narrative.
