Burglary

  • Project Type: Film Direction exercise.
  • Location: Bangalore
  • Year: 2022
  • Tools Used: Adobe Premiere Pro, Canon 1500D

A short film I made during the ‘Elements of Direction’ unit in the 4th semester.

The prompt was to portray someone being scammed or ripped off or a burglary through the various elements of direction like set design, costume design and acting.

However, we could not use sound or dialogues and the number of shots that could be used was also capped at 5.

The final edit of the film.

Left: The step outline I had planned for my film. Right: Some of the storyboards for my shoot.

I shot and edited the entire sequence twice, the second instance being to correct various errors such as the shadow of the camera being visible on screen as well as some shaky footage, a few minor continuity errors as well as character movements and actions to make them look more natural and less ‘orchestrated’ and ‘for the benefit of the camera’. I also made some changes to some of the camera angles and positions the second time around to try and elevate it visually.
