“Anda Curry” meaning ‘Egg Curry’ is Archita Wadhwani’s second directorial effort. This short film was made for her graduation project at Srishti Manipal Institute in April 2024. My role on Archita’s crew was of the lead Director of Photography, and I was aided by Suryadevsinh Parmar.

As the DP, I worked closely with the director to bring her vision to life, from breaking down her screenplay into a detailed shot list, meticulously planning each cooking sequence, visualizing them and taking test shots to finally executing them on the shoot days. With Surya, I carefully blocked each shot and setup dual-camera setups to maximize coverage wherever possible and keep options open for Tanmayi at the post-production stage. I framed every shot to try and make it the best it could be while still adding to the narrative.

Working with food was a novel experience for me as a filmmaker and photographer and it was quite a welcome challenge, to do my best to style each shot such that every step of the recipe gets the audience’s mouth watering and that the final output looks appetizing.

FILM SYNOPSIS:

Yash, a bachelor working in a different city, hosts his parents over the weekend. Differences in Yash’s dreams, aspirations and personality and his father’s expectations from him brings the tensions between them to a boil, with him standing up for himself and his mother and challenging the father’s mindset.
